At Oracle Industry Connect 2015, held recently in Washington, DC, one of the most interesting sessions was the Keynote for the Primavera track. It started with a presentation by Alberto Matucci of GE Oil and Gas, which we covered in our previous blog article.
Then Mike Sicilia, SVP and General Manager of the Primavera Global Business Unit (PGBU), gave a very inspiring address. If you work in any project-driven industry, this video recording is worth your time. Mike gave a “State of the PGBU” summary and then discussed how the real-world practice of Project Portfolio Management has changed and what Oracle is doing to stay ahead of that change.
Some key facts:
- The PGBU has invested in a million hours of R&D in the past year
- Over 1,200 people focus exclusively on Primavera products at Oracle
- Oracle remains committed to the on-premises use of Primavera products, but most new customers are interested in using Primavera in the cloud.
- Primavera’s cloud offerings are being used to manage 360,000 projects valued at $250,000,000,000
- The pace of business change today is more rapid than ever, and the risks of going out of business have never been more significant.
- In 1960 the average lifespan of a company in the S&P 500 was 60 years; in 2015, it was 18 years.
- Mobile applications enhance Primavera applications, but the advanced algorithms on the back end have become more intelligent than ever, enabling things like collaborative work across businesses and joint ventures.
